Cause Of Snoring
When your throat and nose tissues vibrate against each other they make a sound. This sound is Snoring. There are many a causes of Snoring. It may be hereditary, physical, health related, body related and so on. Different parts of your body may be involved in this abnormal behavior like the throat, the uvula, the soft palate, the tonsils etc.
When you sleep our body parts relax. The muscles in the body also relax at that time. The muscle in the throat relaxes at the same time and cause the airway to close partly. This airway is the path of air into your lungs. In normal case there is no obstruction. But when the air flow is obstructed in your throat, the air passage narrows and this causes Snoring.
Heredity – Hereditary factors may cause Snoring. If you have a narrow throat as inheritance, then you are likely to snore.
Overweight – If you are overweight and bulky you may snore. Fat deposited around you neck make your throat narrower. This causes Snoring
Age- At certain ages you are likely to snore. As your age increases, your throat becomes narrower. Also the muscle tone at your throat decreases slowly.
Gender- Men are likely to snore more than women. It happens because of presence of narrower air passage in males.
Smoking habit – If you smoke then you will find nasal congestion. Even in case of passive smoking, nasal congestion will happen. This nasal congestion causes Snoring.
Fitness factor- If your muscles are not toned and if you have loose muscles then you will snore.
Deformities- Obstructed breathing may be caused by nasal deformities like deviated septum and others. Obstructed breathing will cause Snoring.
Enlarged adenoids – Enlarged adenoids or tonsils can obstruct the airway. It may cause more vibration while breathing. This vibration causes Snoring.
A long soft-palate or uvula – A long soft-palate or uvula can cause obstructed breathing and vibration to cause Snoring in you.
Alcohol – Alcohol relaxes the throat, neck and tongue muscle which causes Snoring.
Medication – Medication like sleeping pills and antihistamines can cause the tissue around neck to relax. This will cause Snoring in you.
Allergy, sinus, cold and asthma – All these irregularities will cause nasal block and affect the airways. They will make inhalation difficult. They cause a vacuum in the throat as inhalation is poor. This causes Snoring.
Sleeping on your back –Your sleeping position may be a cause of Snoring. When you sleep on your back your throat muscles relax. Relaxed throat will block the airways. Snoring occurs
It is seen that many a people do not snore when they sleep on sides. But whenever they sleep on their back they start Snoring.
Pillows – Pillows may be a cause of Snoring. Pillow create am angle of your neck with the bed. When you use a very soft pillow, then it increases the angle of the neck. This will obstruct the airway. Obstructed airway will cause Snoring.
